Two of which are stationary (ready and feet together) and eight moving stances (forward, back, horse, cat, cross-over, sanchin, hangetsu, sochin). Those who are testing will be expected to perform assorted moving stance drills from the list above, starting with single techniques and progressing into more complex combinations. Kata Each participant is expected to know the eight forms required up to 1st kyu (all five Heian’s, Kanku Dai, Bassai Dai, and Tekki Shodan) and two forms of their choice from the black belt list of forms. In order to better serve time restraints the pre-requisite forms maybe performed at a pre-testing of your instructor’s choice. If a pre-testing is done you will have to perform the two forms of your choice along with your instructor’s choice of two forms of the “mandatory eight list”, otherwise you will need to perform all ten at testing. Breaking Those who are testing will need to perform two power breaks on the re-breakable boards, a hand technique, along with a spinning kick of their choice. Those testing will also be required to pick two techniques from their chosen Kata’s to perform breaks on a re-breakable board (blue, brown or black) of their choice. Self Defense Each participant of the test will need to show two self defense techniques against five different scenarios of HAOV’s (Habitual Acts Of Violence). (1) Right handed wild round punch (haymaker). (2) One handed wrist grab. (3) Side headlock. (4) Bear hug from the rear. (5) Two handed choke from the front. Sparring Participants will need to spar at least two rounds against a single opponent. The intention of sparring at the end of the test when you are the most fatigued is to check your composure as well as your control of your techniques and emotions. The points scored or lost will not be graded, but to lose your temper, to give up, or to draw blood from your opponent will result in failing this portion of the test or the entire test itself. The expected time frame for the test is two hours. Due to time and space restraints the order this test is given in and the actual techniques called for are always left to the instructor’s discretion. Plan for the worst and you will always be prepared. Good Luck!
